દુનિયાની પ્રખ્યાત સોફ્ટવેર કંપની એટલે કે માઈક્રોસોફ્ટના સહ સંસ્થાપક પોલ એલનનું ૬૫ વર્ષની ઉંમરે સોમવારના રોજ નિધન થયું હતું. પોલ એલન કેન્સરથી પીડાઈ રહ્યા હતા.
પોતાના બાળપણના મિત્ર બીલ ગેટ્સની સાથે તેમણે માઈક્રોસોફ્ટ કંપનીનો પાયો નાખ્યો હતો.
વર્ષ ૨૦૦૯માં થયેલા કેન્સરે પાછો હુમલો કર્યો હતો. સારવાર દરમ્યાન જ તેમનું મૃત્યુ થયું હતું. એલન સારું ગિટાર વગાડવામાં પણ માહેર હતા.

વર્ષ ૧૯૭૫માં એલન અને બીલ ગેટ્સે માઈક્રોસોફ્ટ કોર્પની સ્થાપના કરી હતી.
માઈક્રોસોફ્ટ ટેક્નોલોજીના મામલે દુનિયામાં સર્વોચ્ચ સ્થાન મેળવી લીધું હતું અને ઈએટલના બે વ્યક્તિ અરબપતિ બની ગયા હતા. ત્યારબાદ બંનેએ પોતાને પરોપકાર પ્રવૃત્તિમાં સમર્પિત કરી દીધા હતા. એલન અને ગેટ્સના નામે હાલ ઘણી ચેરીટેબલ ટ્રસ્ટ ચાલી રહ્યા છે. એલને અત્યાર સુધી ૨ અરબ ડોલર કરતા પણ વધારે રૂપિયાનું દાન કરી ચુક્યા છે.
