ગુજરાતના અમદાવાદમાં 2008ના સિરિયલ બ્લાસ્ટ કેસમાં સ્પેશિયલ કોર્ટનો નિર્ણય શુક્રવારે 18 ફેબ્રુઆરીએ આવ્યો હતો. આ કેસમાં 49 દોષિતોમાંથી 38 લોકોને ફાંસીની સજા અને 11 લોકોને આજીવન કેદની સજા સંભળાવવામાં આવી હતી. કોર્ટના આ નિર્ણય બાદ ગુજરાતમાં ભાજપે તેના ટ્વિટર એકાઉન્ટ પરથી એક વ્યંગચિત્ર પોસ્ટ કર્યું છે. જે બાદ વિવાદ સર્જાયો હતો.
ગુજરાત ભાજપ દ્વારા પોસ્ટ કરવામાં આવેલા પોસ્ટમાં એક ચોક્કસ ધર્મના લોકોને ફાંસી પર લટકતા બતાવવામાં આવ્યા હતા. આ ટ્વીટ પોસ્ટ થતાં જ લોકોએ પ્રતિક્રિયાઓ આપવાનું શરૂ કરી દીધું હતું. અમેરિકન મુસ્લિમ સ્કૉલર ઓમર સુલેમાને ભાજપની નિંદા કરતા લખ્યું,
“જ્યારે વિશ્વના સૌથી મોટા લોકશાહી દેશ પર શાસન કરનાર પક્ષ આવા ફોટા ટ્વીટ કરે છે, ત્યારે તે સ્પષ્ટ થઈ જાય છે કે આપણે ક્યાં જઈ રહ્યા છીએ. આ ડરામણી છે.”
